Regata OS 24.0.12 released with fixes for Wayland and Max-Q, new KDE Plasma 6.2 and more

A new update for Regata OS is now available on a PC near you. It's update 24.0.12, which brings with it the new KDE Plasma 6.2 to further enhance the user experience with new features, as well as fixes for existing functionality.

Among the highlights of Plasma 6.2, we can mention new and improved power management features, such as per-monitor brightness control, the ability to override applications that are blocking sleep mode or screen lock, the ability to switch between power profiles with the Super+B keyboard shortcut, a power profile badge for the Battery Monitor widget icon.

A new tone mapping feature has also been implemented in this release for the KWin compositor and window manager to improve the appearance of images, along with better brightness handling for HDR and ICC profiles. In addition, the new version of the graphical environment also promises better performance for HDR.

The new KDE Plasma 6.2 arrives with many improvements and new features. Therefore, it is important that you check out the official release announcement to stay up to date with all the changes.

Fix for Wayland and Max-Q

The Wayland session has also finally been fixed, with users now being able to use it normally. Currently, the Wayland session is available in the system as an alternative option, and can be easily activated by the most enthusiastic users through the system login screen — in the lower left corner of the screen.

Additionally, a bug in the Max-Q application that ended up affecting users using multiple monitors with NVIDIA graphics cards has also been fixed, and there is a Vulkan fix for users running their games on Regata OS with an AMD or Intel GPU.

Improvements to Regata OS Game Access

Regata OS Game Access is more than just an application designed to help you access and install your Windows games on Regata OS. It also improves different parts of the system so that you can have the best experience when playing your favorite games.

To start, the Linux Kernel has been updated to version 6.11, which brings initial support for AMD RDNA4 graphics, new features in the AMD P-State CPU frequency management driver, and several new features, as well as improved support for new hardware. More details about Linux Kernel 6.11 can be found in this very complete article on the Phoronix website.

Also present in the Regata OS update 24.0.12 is Mesa 24.3, which features several improvements to the Radeon Vulkan "RADV" driver, numerous performance optimizations — including older AMD Navi 10 GPUs —, Vulkan FIFO support in Wayland, initial enablement of Intel Xe3 for Panther Lake, robust support for Lunar Lake and Battlemage Xe2, and many other improvements and fixes.

The Game Access DXVK has been updated to version 2.5.1. This new DXVK series comes with a complete rewrite of the resource and memory management code, ensuring more efficient use of allocated video memory.

This basically means that DXVK should now experience less vRAM fragmentation during peak memory usage, with games like God of War seeing up to 1GB less memory usage in extreme scenarios. Video memory defragmentation is also performed periodically in the background.

Some of the games that will receive specific fixes with DXVK 2.5 include The Sims 4, Diablo 4, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, Tomb Raider: Legend, and others. More details about the many changes coming with DXVK 2.5 can be found in the official announcement from the developers on GitHub.
